Happy Christmas From The Exchange

Barnsley Recovery College

December 24, 2021

It’s the last week of term and Christmas is just around the corner. We at The Exchange Recovery College would like to say a huge thankyou to all our learners and volunteers for all of their commitment and hard work this term. It has been wonderful to see so many new faces and to welcome back familiar ones.

The college has continued to deliver sessions with minimal disruptions. This in part is due to our health and safety precautions. Some of the measurements we have implemented include: – Meeting learners at the gate on the first session and escorting them to class, temperature monitoring, increased cleaning rotas, Hand hygiene stations, social distancing markers, a one-way system when entering and exiting the site, reduced class sizes and the use of facemasks where social distancing can’t be maintained. We are also running a reduced program of courses so as to keep footfall down to a safe level. For a more information on the courses available, please see our prospectus.

At the moment, we are insisting that all visits to the college are arranged in advance with a member of staff. This is to ensure we do not exceed capacity.

As well as face to face classes, workshops and one to one introduction, we are also offering a range of physical activity options which adhere to current government guidelines. These include weekly bike rides, football and netball sessions (both walking and running) and a couch to 5K program. In edition our Exercise Specialist Kev is now doing a 12 week course incorporating nutrition as well as exercise. A full list of activities can be found in our prospectus.

Our Team has grown this term as we have welcomed 7 brand new peer support workers and 2 psychology student placements.  We would like to take this opportunity to welcome them all and let them know how much we are looking forward to working together in the new year.

It has been a challenging 12 months but with the help and contributions from our staff, volunteers and learners, The Exchange Recovery College has remained an important resource for local people. We would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. See you in 2022.
